If Arsenal can shake-off any post-ESL hangover, they can make some positive progress in both the Premier League and the Europa League over the next ten days. Today it’s Everton, Thursday they play Villarreal, and then on May 2nd it’s Newcastle United. The latter two matches are away from Emirates Stadium. All three of those games are very winnable, however, any fall-off in performance , or in effort, will not bode well to winning points.
Arsenal are unbeaten v Everton over their past 24 matches against the Toffies, 20-4-0, plus today marks the 200th top flight match between these two storied clubs.
The Gunners will be without five of their best players for this match , while Everton could be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, one of the league’s top scorers this season with 14 goals.
For any hopes of a “successful” season, Arsenal needs to extend their positive run of games. AFC is 2-2-0 in their last four matches. A win today would slide them ahead of Everton into 8th place on the Premier League table. With only six matches remaining in the Gunners PL season, every point is a must win for them to have any chance of earning a European place for next season. Of course, Arsenal still has a chance to win the Europa League, guaranteeing qualification for the Champions League, however, I don’t think Mikel Arteta should put all of his eggs in just that one basket.
