Next up, Ainfield on Sunday. The Gunners will walk into the stadium hearing thousands of Liverpool voices singing, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” This is always a moving moment in English football, one that is designed to intimidate the visiting players before opening kick. However, Mikel Arteta will have his squad prepared for this chorus, and will warn his lads that Ainfield is always a dangerous play to play, with or without the Reds thousands of off-key supporters bellowing their favorite tune.
All-in-all, Klopp has not been able to find the consistency or firepower his club has been famous for the past few seasons. We should expect a complete overhaul of Liverpool in the summer, as Klopp survives on his past performances, but will need to be much better next season.
With that said, let’s go back to last weekend and the Gunners match v Leeds United.
How great was it to see Gabriel Jesus on the pitch and back in form? His presence was instrumental in the Arsenal win. Providing support to Jesus was Leandro Trossard, who appears to be on the list of the club’s all-time great January signings. The young Belgian is making great plays offensively, and is playing with a remarkable unselfishness.
Also, congratulations to Rob Holding who has now made two very successful starts replacing the injured William Saliba. As one pundit said, “The less you hear his name, the better he is playing.” I totally agree. Holding will continue to play an important role as we move aowardth end of this remarkable season.
Other items to note from the Premier League weekend include the sacking of both Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter. I wasn’t surprised so much by Leicester City’s move, however, I really thought Potters would survive through the end of the season at Stamford Bridge. Leicester City is currently in the relegation zone, while Chelsea sits in 11th on the league table. Both men are accomplished managers, and I’m sure we’ll see their names surface again in the near future at other clubs.
Note: The 12 sackings of Premier League mangers this season has set an all-time league record. That’s an incredible 60% of the league managers who have seen the axe fall on their careers at their respective clubs. Even in America where winning is everything, I can’t say I’ve seen this many coaching casualties in a single seasoning a single league. As mentioned in an earlier post, managing in the Premier League is not for the faint of heart,
So, my fellow Gooners, take a deep breath, get some rest, and let’s get ready for Liverpool, and remember, Gooners don’t walk alone either!
Cheers.
