For a lot of reasons, former Gunners’ captain Cesc Fabregas is and always will remain one of my favorite Arsenal players. However, his most recent act will move him even further up my list.
Here’s why…
The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Spanish international star has offered to defer his salary for the next four months to help his current club, Monaco, deal with their financial woes caused by COVID-19.
The Telegraph, who first reported this story, says Monaco will save $2.86-million (USD) thanks to the Catalan’s gesture. Cesc has also offered to help pay the wages of the club’s ground staff during the shutdown.
Not only that, Monaco will not have to repay $715,500 of his deferred money, which is an amazing act of loyalty and generosity shown by the 32-year-old Spanish midfielder.
However, even with these savings, Monaco will continue to struggle financially now that the Ligue 1 season has officially been cancelled.
And for Fabregas, his 95-year-old grandmother has also contracted the coronavirus, so he is feeling the impact of COVID-19 on a personal level as well.
Not only the football world, but the whole world needs more people like Cesc Fabregas!
He is a legend in more ways than one.
