William Saliba, the invisible man

When will we get to see William Saliba play?
We know he’s on the squad because we can see footage of him in training.

I mean, we heard so such about the young defender throughout last season when he was on loan in France, but since joining the Gunners in London, he’s been the invisible man.

Now, I know Mikel Arteta has his reasons for keeping Saliba under wraps. He has publicly stated Saliba needs more time to adjust to London, to the team, to the Premier League’s physicality, etc. That’s all said and good, but shouldn’t he be given a run-out tomorrow at Anfield? When will we see what this defender can, or can’t do. On video, he looks a very solid player, but is there another Arteta is keeping him off the competitive pitch?

Mikel, give Saliba a chance tomorrow. Line him up with Gabriel on the back line and let their future as a defensive duo begin.

I originally listed Gabriel along side Rob Holding in my predicted line-up for Thursday’s game, plus I have Bernd Leno in goal.
However, could this also be a chance for our new goalkeeper, Runar Alex Runarsson to test his skills against the Reds?
With Emiliano Martinez gone, we seem to be putting all of our eggs in one basket. If Leno goes down again, we could have a “rusty” keeper waiting in the wings, and I don’t think any of us want to see that happen.

Not to downplay the Carabao Cup, but it is the Carabao Cup, so let these young players play.

  1. Here we go again. Now some are starting to whine about Saliba’s absence this far and we are talking about 2-3 matches so far. Let Arteta do his thing and he is doing fine as far as I can see.
