Winning Europa League’s Group A is important, but so is Sunday at Chelsea

Four very big matches are on the horizon for the Gunners before taking the World Cup break.

Up first will be a tricky game v FC Zurich. Arsenal needs all three points to ensure a sport in the Europa League Round of 16. If PSV would win the Group A stage, the Gunners would have to play a two-leg knockout round against a Champions League team that failed to move on for the group stages. That’s two more matches we don’t need.

Long story short, Mikel Arteta will need to be careful when selecting his starting Xi for Thursday. The Chelsea match will follow in just three shorts days, and that match holds extreme importance to Arsenal’s current position in the Premier League.

There is some good news on the injury front. Bukayo Saka’s ankle could be healed enough to play on Sunday, While Mo Elneny has made a surprise return to training. Matt Turner and Alex Zinchenko remain question marks for Thursday.

Here’s the starting XI the boss put on the field when we last played FC Zurich on September 8th: Turner, Tierney, Gabriel, Holding, Tomiyasu, Xhaka, Lokonga, Marquinhos, Martinelli, Vieira, Nketiah

With that said, here’s my predicted starting XI v FC Zurich on Thursday…

[4-2-3-1]

Nketiah

Martinelli, Vieria, Nelson

Lokonga, Xhaka

Tierney, Gabriel, Holding, Tomiyasu

Ramsdale will start if Turner is unable to play

Predicted final score: ARSENAL 3 – FC Zurich 0

  1. Hmm is anyone else experiencing problems with the pictures on this

problem on my end or if it’s the blog. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Agree with the starting lineup but Xhaka is suspended for this game so it will be Odegaard who will start. And also on the HT I would like Martinelli out, Marquinos in, Tomi out, Cedric in, Martin out, Smith in, of course if we have closed the game already.
