If there was ever a “must win” game for the Arsenal Football Club in recent years, this is it!
With Tottenham Hotspur beating Burnley on Sunday, the Gunners are now in a situation where they have to win both remaining matches to secure a 4th place finish in the Premier League and a spot in next season’s Champions League. I find it hard to believe Tottenham will lose to Norwich City.
Mikel Arteta has said, “I just look forwards. I said after the press conference, that game was lost, we were disappointed, but we didn’t have any time to recover and we have a huge game to play on Monday against Newcastle and full focus and energy was just on that.” [courtesy of Arsenal.com]
Great, the manager is looking forward, but can his young squad do the same? Nerves will be on end at St. James Park today for the Gunners as they must put Tottenham behind them and push forward for the 3 points. This is where Granit Xhaka, and hopefully, Ben White can help steady the nerves of our young lads. I’m thinking the presence of Alexander Lacazette on the pitch might also be a bonus in this situation.
St. James Park has always been a tough place to place. The Magpie supporters are loud and boisterous, and Eddie Howe’s team will to looking to play spoilers to Arsenal’s dream finish.
The Gunners have beaten Newcastle in their last eight meetings in all competitions, and outscoring them 18-1. Let’s hope that trend continues today.
A win will put the Arsenal club one point above Tottenham in the table with one game remaining as Arsenal hosts Everton, and Tottenham will be on the road at relegated Norwich City on Sunday.
The next seven days will define this season. and, as we have said before, the Gunners control their own destiny.
COYG!
Cheers!
