It’s only three weeks until opening day, meaning the clock is ticking for Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta to get this season’s squad ready for the long road ahead.
One of Arsenal’s keys to achieve success this season will be depth, and a lot of it. With the club adding the Europa League to their fixture list, and depending on how far the Gunners advance in the domestic cups this season, Arsenal will require a lot of depth which will allow Arteta to rotate his squad through those matches, and through inevitable injuries. Matches will come fast and furious, with each match gaining more importance than the last.
And of course, let’s not forget their Premier League battles ahead. Every Prem club is working hard this summer to improve their squads as well, meaning Arsenal will have their hands full at every turn of the calendar page.
With 47 days remaining in the summer transfer window, Gaspar and Arteta still have plenty of time to off-load the players who needed to be off-loaded, and time to bring in those important reinforcements .
With that said, here is a book at the current depth chart, minus the players who are currently with the club but who should be gone by August 31st…
Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, Matt Turner, Arthur Okonkwo
Left back: Kieran Tierney
Right back: Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soraes
Central defenders: Gabriel, Ben White, William Saliba, Rob Holding
Defensive midfielders: Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny
Attacking midfielders: Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira, Albery Sambi Lokonga
Left wingers: Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe
Right wingers: Bukayo Saka, Marquinhos
Strikers: Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Folarin Balogun
Obviously, some glaring holes to be filled, and soon.
21 days and counting!
