What started out as a potential walk in the park, turned into a trip to hell.
Arsenal imploded just seconds before halftime, then ended the match with only nine men on the pitch as the final score showed a 2-1 win for Wolverhampton Wanderers. With this win, Wolves swept this season’s two-game series v the Gunners, with two, 2-1 wins.
Our squad did own the first half of the game, and with a little luck could have had at least 3 or 4 goals on the board. Pepe was able to finish a magnificent flurry of moves to score, but then David Luiz was shown a straight red. By the way, this was one of the worst VAR decisions during an Arsenal match this season. It was horrible officiating. Luiz’s contact was so incidental, yet the Brazilian defender did the “walk of shame” as Wolves nailed the PK to tie the game 1-1 at intermission.
Wolves scored again in the second half, Bernd Leno made a poor decision outside the penalty box, got a red and was also sent off – and then there was 9!
Okay, let’s don’t be too done on the Gunners today. Sure we lost, but this was a very strange game. A lot of unusual things occurred, and to be frank, the referee and VAR weren’t at their best either. But, at the end of the day, no matter what got us there, Arsenal lost the game, and dropped the three points.
Next up, Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, and, obviously, we’ll be without Luiz and Leno.
Hopefully, Tierney will be back, and with a little luck Aubameyang will be fit enough to play the full 90 minutes.
Today’s loss is a tough one to swallow. It’s one of those woulda, coulda, shoulda games. But then again, it’s tough to win with just 9.
