Okay, let’s take a break from the coronavirus news and talk about something a little more fun.
Currently, I have to assume Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves, Sheffield United, Tottenham and Arsenal are the clubs still in play to reach a top 4 or Top 5 finish in the Premier League. In my opinion, Burnley and Crystal Palace are still outside looking in.
Take a quick look and then we will then analyze who has the best chance to finish in one of those spots.
Chelsea (48 points): Aston Villa, Manchester City, West Ham United, Watford, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Norwich city, Liverpool, Wolves
Manchester United (45 points): Tottenham, Sheffield United, Brighton and Hove, Bournmouth, Aston Villa, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Leicester City
Wolves (43 points): West Ham United, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Sheffield United, Everton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Chelsea
Sheffield United (43 points): Newcastle United, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Burnley, Wolves, Chelsea, Leicester City, Everton, Southampton
Tottenham (41 points): Manchester United, West Ham United, Sheffield United, Everton, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Leicester City, Crystal Palace
Arsenal (40 points): Brighton and Hove, Norwich City, Wolves, Leicester City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Watford, Manchester City, Southampton
In my opinion, Sheffield United has the toughest run-in schedule with 6 matches against the Top 10.
Arsenal has the second most difficult fixture list with 5 matches vs. the Top 10, while Tottenham and Chelsea are tied for third with both facing 4 Top 10 teams. Manchester United and Wolves have the easiest run-in schedules with each facing just 3 Top 10 clubs.
With that said, it’s going to be hard to make any real predictions with all of the uncertainty surrounding the current global pandemic. Big questions remain regarding the future of this season’s schedule altogether. If the Premier League can go on as planned through May, the competitions for the Top 4 and Top 5 positions will be real crackers. Any of the above mentioned clubs should be seriously considered. Even Arsenal, has a legitimate chance to get the job done, providing they continue to grow and excel under Mikel Arteta’s leadership. Even Burnley and Crystal Place (currently 11th and 12 respectively in the league table) can’t be counted out of the equation either.
Let’s hope and pray the coronavirus begins to lose it’s grip on the world’s population, and then we can get our lives back to normal.
We love our sports, however, nothing is more important than the health of ourselves, our families, our friends, and our communities.
Keep the faith.
