Thanks to own goals from Molde and goals from Nicolas Pepe and Joe Willock, the Gunners walked away with a 4-1 win in Thursday’s Europa League match. The win puts Arsenal on top of UEL Group B with 9 points in 3 games.
Joe Willock is my MOTM. Willock was a constant thorn in the side of the Molde defense throughout the game. He helped force the own goals, then got one of his own later in the match. In my opinion, Willock played one of his best games as a Gunner.
After the game, Mikel Arteta told Arsenal.com this about Joe Willock, “Yeah, I think he was really strong in his performance. I think the way he’s approaching every opportunity, also how mature he is. I saw his press conference as well and I was impressed by the way he’s communicating as well. He is developing the right way, he is a player that I really like, he has some very special qualities. He deserves every minute he’s been playing and he’s showing it with performances, with goals and with his attitude.”
Arteta opened the match with a strong line-up consisting of: Leno, Kolasinac, Luiz, Mustafi, Maitland-Niles, Ceballos, Xhaka, Willock, Pepe, Willian and Nketiah.
The big surprise was Bernd Leno starting in goal. Most observers thought Runar Runarsson would get his second UEL start. Obviously, the Arsenal boss was taking this match seriously. The boss wants to come out of the Group B matches sitting on top of the table
so his squad gets a better slot in the Round of 32.
Next up, Emiliano Martinez and Aston Villa come to the Emirates Stadium for a Premier League battle on Sunday just before the two week November international break.
COYG!
Cheers. Gunner1953
