Mikel Arteta said it all in his post-match interview with Arsenal.com…
“They are willing to do more and I’m really happy with how they competed in the game. They showed course to play against this team with no fear. They really went for it and it’s nice to win it on penalties too. There are never any excuses. We had to compete in this game and we came here in these circumstances, but the players were willing to put their bodies on the line and to play against this opponent with the way that we did today. Credit to the boys.”
Today, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang raised his second trophy in August following Arsenal’s incredible win over Premier League champions, Liverpool in the Community Shield. The score was deadlocked 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Aubaymeyang’s penalty kick in the shoot-out sealed the deal…the Gunners win 5-4 on penalties!
Okay, let’s break it down. Arsenal has defeated Liverpool twice, Manchester City and Chelsea in their last 6 games.
And, there’s more. In Arsenal’s last 7 games the Gunners have scored 9 goals. Aubameyang scored 7 of those goals!
These are two very impressive statistics!
First…Arsenal’s 180 degree improvement since December must be attributed to the quality and leadership of Mikel Arteta.
Second, if Stan and Josh Kroneke do not see the value of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, then they must sell the team! Arsenal supporters will implode with frustration if ownership allows this great player too walk away! Period.
Yes, we must attribute a lot of Arsenal’s recent successes to Arteta, however, the man who gets the job done on the pitch, big game after big game, has been Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang! Of course, he hasn’t done this all by himself, however, the quality of his play, and the importance of his leadership has brought out the best in his teammates. He has been outstanding!
Mr. Kroenke, please give the man what he wants, make him stay, and some day we will see a statue being erected in front of Emirates Stadium in Aubameyang’s honor. Maybe even one for you, too, Stan!
Today, was a great day for Arsenal! Now, it’s time to finalize the pieces of this year’s puzzle, get the remaining deals done, and let’s move forward into an exciting year of football.
I am so pumped up right now I’m not sure I can wait until September 12th!
Cheers, and stay healthy and safe!
