All good things come to an end as Mesut Ozil lands in Turkey with his wife and child at his side.
Soon, it will be “officially” announced, but for now we know the German playmaker has left Arsenal for good.
I remember watching Ozil play when he was a younger man playing for Real Madrid, and the German national team. I admired his ability as a playmaker. He was a wizard on the ball, and had the eye of a surgeon inside the box. Most of all, I was thrilled when Arsene Wenger signed him for Arsenal in 2013.
He made 184 appearances for the Gunners, and now at the age of 32, he has taken his skills, and his magic, to Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
Unfortunately, he will not have the opportunity to wave goodbye to a packed house of Arsenal supporters at the Emirates, nor will he have a testimonial game to display his skills on our home pitch once again. Instead, he jetted off into the night with no fanfare, no salute.
His last year at Arsenal is bit of a mystery. Mikel Arteta put him into exile with explanations that baffled most of the faithful flowers of the club.
As a fan of this club, I want to say “THANK YOU” to Mesut Ozil for the many terrific moments he produced for all Gooners to have enjoyed over the past seven plus years.
Mesut, you will be missed. We wish you great success in your life, and in the rest of your remarkable career.
