Arsenal could benefit from P.P.G. formula determining final PL table

UEFA has given the Premier League, and all of Europe’s domestic leagues, the right to determine next season’s qualifiers in the Champions League and Europa League if the 2019-2020 season can not be finished.

One of the suggestions is to set the final table using a points per game” formula to make the process based on “sporting merit.”

I’m not a mathematician by any means, however, I ran the numbers and here’s the Premier League’s Top 10 based on points per game in the 2019-2020 season to date.

1.Liverpool – 2.83
2.Man City – 2.05
3.Leicester City – 1.85
4.Chelsea – 1.66
5.Man United – 1.55
6.Sheff United – 1.53
7.Wolves – 1.48
8.Arsenal – 1.43
9.Tottenham – 1.41
10.Burnley – 1.33

Now, here is the current table using total points, and whether or not the clubs went either up or down in the current table using the PPG formula…

1.Liverpool – 82 (same)
2.Man City – 57 (same)
3.Leicester City – 53 (same)
4.Chelsea – 48 (same)
5.Man United – 45 (same)
6.Wolves – 43 (-1)
7.Sheff United – 43 (+1)
8.Tottenham – 41 (-1)
9.Arsenal – 40 (+1)
10.Burnley – 39 (same)

End result, Arsenal and Sheffield pick up one position, while Wolves and Tottenham lose one spot.
Using the PPG system, the Champions League spots would go to Liverpool, Leicester City, Chelsea and Man United. (Man City is suspended).
The Europa League spots would go to Sheffield United and Wolves. If one of the Champions League qualifiers would also win the FA Cup, then Arsenal would qualify for the Europa League. Tottenham Hotspur would be outside looking in!

UEFA has made it clear that using the 2018-2019 final table to determine European qualifying would not be acceptable if this season can not be concluded.
