The transfer window opens on Wednesday and clubs across Europe will begin making their summer transfer deals. However, if history holds true, all we will hear from Arsenal for days and days will be crickets.
Even though the window has not officially opened, some clubs are already messing with Arsenal’s transfer plans. The Gunners have missed out on Norwich City midfielder Emi Buenedia, signed by Aston Villa. In my humble opinion, this is an embarrassment. To be outbid by Aston Villa is a travesty! Where’s the big war chest Stan Korenke promised? So, Biuendia is off the market, plus, another potential Arsenal target, striker Moussa Dembele of Celtic, is reportedly heading to Leicester City. Reports are also circulating that Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka could be going to Roma with Jose Mourinho. Without a doubt, the buzzards are circling.
We all know this is probably one of the biggest, if not biggest transfer market in this millennium for the Gunners. Please Arsenal, this can not be a window where we wait until the 24th hour of the last day to make signings. We need reinforcements at every position, and with more players on the chopping block at the end of June, Edu and Arteta need to get this transfer train moving, or once again we will be looking for available warm bodies at the end of the window on August 31st.
Behind the scenes we should expect a lot of wheeling and dealing going on, however, my biggest fear is spend so much time and energy trying to make a deal with Real Madrid to land Martin Odegaard, other potential top flight midfielders get swept up by other clubs. Currently available are Ruben Nunez, Houssem Aouar, Sander Berge, Yves Bissouma and others.
If the front office doesn’t deliver at least four to five top notch signings this summer, Gooner Nation will explode with frustration and disappointment. Another 8th place season is not where any of us want to be, and the thoughts of another season of missed opportunities, failed expectations and inconsistent performances will not be exceptable on any level.
I know the transfer window doesn’t open until Wednesday, but I already see other clubs making their moves.
Let’s hope Arsenal are proactive, aggressive and generous during this transfer window. Please!
