This was a jaw dropping day for me, and I suppose for most of the world’s Arsenal faithful.
Any chance of signing Thomas Partey seemed like it was done and dusted days ago, yet Mikel Arteta, Edu and other members of Arsenal’s transfer team found a way to make it happen. All of our attention has been focussed on Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, with Chelsea’s Jorginho as the #2 choice. Partey seemed to be out of the picture.
Was this a ploy by the Arsenal brass to redirect attention away from Thomas Partey? Whether it was or wasn’t doesn’t matter because Arsenal have acquired one of Europe’s elite midfielders. Thomas Partey will be a Gunner for at least five years!
However the cash was raised to make this deal a reality is a true miracle from above. Did Stan Kroenke come to the club’s rescue at the eleventh hour, or is the club taking a big financial hit to keep building Arteta’s “dream” team? Again, who cares? Thomas Partey is our new #18, and that is all that matters!
From the very beginning, Partey was my guy. Just watch his You Tube videos and you will see a great player, at both ends of the pitch. He will probably be Arsenal’s box-to-box midfielder. He’s tough, he’s smooth and he is one helluva footballer. Period!
Now at 27-years-old, Partey has been with Atletico Madrid since 2012. He has enjoyed a lot of big time European success in Spain, and should no problem adjusting to the Premier League,
Party will join the Gunners in London following his international duty with Ghana.
Let the Partey begin in north London!
