Arteta needs to make a few changes to his starting XI for the match at Old Trafford

Mikel Arteta will have some being decisions to makle tomorrow when putting together his starting XI for the match at Old Trafford.

First, does Arteta take Nuno Tavares out of the starting XI and re-insert Kieran Tierney? Except for the Liverpool disaster, Tavares has played extremely well in Tierney’s absence. Nuno’s constant movement up and down the left sideline has been a real pain in the side of opponent defenders, however, in my opinion, Tierney is still one of the best to play the position in the Premier League, so Tavares should step aside and let the Scotsman back on the pitch.

Second, what happens to the midfield? Thomas Partey has not played very well lately, so should Mo Elneny or Ainsley Mitland-Niles step into his defensive midfield role v Man United? In my onion, the answer is no. Partey will regroup this week and have a big game against Man United. Count on it.

An finally, what about the front line? Someone needs to begin scoring goals, so I would give P-E Aubameyang a rest, and use him as a substitute if needed. Arteta should start Alexandre Lacazette up front, with Emile Smith Rowe and Gabrielle Martinelli on the flanks. The boss should also give the banged-up Bukayo Saka a chance to completely heal before throwing him back into the action. Keep Saka fresh for Monday at Everton. Also, Martin Odgegaard should remain in the number nine position.

Arteta had this to say about Auba, “Well, the form of Auba is always going to be related to the goals that he scores. He does many other things apart from scoring goals, but obviously, we need that contribution because goals are critical for our success. That’s been shown in the last few years when we’ve been able to do that and that has to be his aim, to continue to do all the things that he’s doing and then, in the right moments, put the ball in the net.” [courtesy of Arsenal.com]

So far this season, our goal scoring talisman has netted just 7 in all comps, but he has also missed several wide open opportunities at critical times. I love the player, but I think Martinelli needs to be given this opportunity to shine in Thursday’s big match.

I really believe we can go in there and bring home the three points!

Cheers.

  1. Liverpool thrashed Man U, why, they play with 3 strikers, they play fast.

Two strikers this week please Laca and Martinelli with instructions for nod ons and through balls for Martinelli to run his guts out in the first half, and tire and frustrate Utd defence.

We allowed 5 subs, would like to see anyone Tiring or having a knock to be replaced ASAP, none of this give them 5 minutes to try and run out an injury

Let’s play fast, let’s win this.
