Mikel Arteta…how he has done so far at the Arsenal helm

Mikel Arteta has now been in charge for 8 games as the Arsenal boss. His record, 3 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat. His squad has won 13 of the 24 available points in those matches, and have scored 11 goals, while allowing only 8.

Okay, okay…I know stats don’t always tell the whole story, however, they do provide a snapshot of how a team is doing.

So, how is Mikel Arteta doing after 8 games?

In my opinion, Arteta has made improvements in several areas…
1) He has improved the squad’s overall character and desire by reminding them what it means to be a professional, and what it means to play for AFC.
2) The defense is more organized, and seems to communicate better. We are giving up fewer shots per game then we did earlier in the season.
3) Players such as Xhaka, Ozil and Torreira have found new life, and are playing at higher levels than under Unai Emery.
4) The supporters are starting to get behind the club, and the Emirates is singing again!
5) Arteta is looking to strengthen the club defensively in the January transfer window. First, Pablo Mari signed, and now maybe Cedric Soares.

Offensively, we are controlling the ball better, the passing is sharper, we are turning the ball over less, and we our once again winning more 50/50’s. However, the one thing we still need to improve on is offensive creativity and goal scoring productivity. This all takes time, and time isn’t something the Gunners have a lot of right now. However, patience is key. The team needs take one game at a time, build off each performance, and continue to play football the Arteta way.

My grade for Mike Arteta after 8 games: A solid B

Cheers. Gunner1953
