Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, one day you are staying, the next day you are leaving. I’m dizzy trying to keep up!
Today, ESPN is reporting the Arsenal talisman’s potential move to PSG might have hit a snag. The report says PSG has fallen in love with Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, leaving our Mr. Aubameyang out in the cold. So, with that said, today Auba remains a Gunner. But who knows what tomorrow will bring.
Everybody and their brother has had some sort of interest in Aubameyang. All across Europe, from England to France to Spain and even to Italy, last season’s Golden Boot winner is a man in demand, yet no one has stepped up to claim him. It seems the most interested clubs always come up with an alternative. Why is that? Arsenal’s asking price would probably be in the $30-40k range. Aubameyang is currently 30-years-old, so he is right in the middle of his prime. I’m sure a club would pay the asking price, but the second issue becomes his weekly wages. He will probably be asking somewhere between $250,000-350,000 per week.
The Gabonese striker is really in the cat’s bird seat. He could stay at Arsenal one more season and then leave on a free transfer next summer. Without the need to pay a transfer fee, his new club would have the potential to really open up their pocket book and offer a hefty weekly wage. Or, he could be transferred this summer, again with the potential of making a very nice living. At 30, his next contract will be his last chance to make the big payday.
It’s a scary situation for Arsenal. The man has scored the bulk of the club’s goals. He has won numerous games with his scoring prowess. He’s not an easy man to replace, but on the other hand, the club could use his transfer fee to help fill some gapping holes that need to be plugged before the start of next season.
We have a group of young, and very talented strikers in the wings, and if the club can find a strong replacement to lead a young front line, then we could be in good shape.
I wish I had a crystal ball to see how this works out because this is not a clear cut decision. Arsenal could succeed or falter either way they chose to go with Pierre-Emerick Emiliano Francois Aubameyang.
Cheers, and stay healthy!
