Could Arsenal land Dayot Upamecano this summer?

The Mirror is reporting Dayot Upamecano, the RB Leipzig defender, has told his club he plans to leave this summer. The 21-year-old Frenchman has been high on the Gunners’ transfer list for several months. His contract expires the summer of 2021, however, no extension has yet to be signed.
He has been linked with other European clubs as well, so there will be some stiff competition.

Mikel Artetas has been keen to get his back line strengthened, and Dayot could become an instant starter for Arsenal next season. However, before that would happen, RB Leipzig will ask a hefty $71-million (USD) in release clause cash for his services.

If Arteta and the Gunners’ front office could get the young defender on board, Arsenal would have a new back line of Kieran Tierney, William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano and Hector Bellerin in front of keeper Bernd Leno. Bukayo Saka would also be in the equation if he signs a new deal with Arsenal this summer.

With that said, with or without Saka, this would be a very impressive Premier League back line, not only for next season, but for many seasons to come. Upamecano has made several hints through the media in recent months that he wants to play at the Emirates next season.

Let’s hope his dream comes true!

Cheers.
