Has Arsenal been stiffed 9 points?

Ok, I’m not one to usually blame poor refereeing decisions for my teams’ bad performances, however, a report released by ESPN really caught my eye.

According to their findings, this would be the current Premier League table if every refereeing decision had been correct this season…

1st – Liverpool – 56 points (they would have lost 2 points)
2nd – Leicester City – 45 points (no difference)
3rd – Manchester City – 42 points (-2 points difference)
4th – Chelsea – 36 points (no difference)
5th – Arsenal – 36 points (+9 points difference)

There you have it, Arsenal has been screwed out of 9 points this season by poor refereeing decisions. Wasn’t VAR supposed to correct these on-field refereeing mistakes?

9 points is nothing to sneeze at, even 6 or 3 would make a difference at the end of the season. There’s no crying over spilled milk, however, when it’s your team getting the wax job, then it’s time to stand up and be heard. Just ask the fans of the New Orleans Saints who were cheated out of a spot in last year’s NFL Super Bowl by a poor referee’s call in the NFC Championship game. Their fans were so irate they filed a lawsuit against the NFL. The suit was dropped by a Federal Court, but at least they stood up and spoke out!

Now, I’m not saying Arsenal supporters should sue the Premier League, but the league really needs to get their act together in regards to refereeing and VAR. No one is perfect, I know first hand, however, with the technology available and the amount of money and honor that’s on the line no team should be stiffed 9 points halfway through a season. Points are hard to come by in the Premier League, and every team has the right to be rewarded for every point they earn.
