Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal squad have started the 2023/2024 season with a loud bang and silverware!
The noise from Arsenal supporters in Wembley Stadium on Sunday could literally be heard across the pond following Leonard Trossard’s last second equalizer, then Fabio Vieira’s penalty kick that sealed the win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. What a finish to a really great game!
The club has now captured its 17th Community Shield trophy, and have begun the season with a huge statement besting the Citizens, a club who won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League just a few short months ago.
Today, Arteta and Gaspar Edu has made yet another positive step with the club as they have moved Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest in exchange for goalkeeper David Raya. Don’t get me wrong, I think Turner is a solid goalkeeper, however, Raya has a ton of Premier League experience, and will provide Aaron Ramsdale more competition #1 goalkeeper spot.
With that said, Ramsdale put on a solid showing against Manchester City. His clutch saves at important moments in the match were critical to allow Martin Odegaard to hoist the trophy following the game.
Ramsdale was my Man of the Match.
So, here we go. The Gunners’ Premier League season kick-off on Saturday v Nottingham Forest. Will we see Turner in the Forest goal v his former teammates? That would be extremely interesting to following during the match.
One final note. I was surprised to see Arteta start Kai Havertz leading the line in a false #9 position. Will this continue, or will we see Eddie Nketiah up top on Saturday?
The season has begun, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
COYG!
