How to advance to the World Cup’s Round of 16

The United States, England, Wales and Iran play their final Group B matches on Tuesday. The Americans play Iran, while the English side plays neighboring Wales.

Here’s what it will take for these nations to advance to the Round of 16…

The USA qualifies with a win. A loss or draw and the Americans are eliminated.

England will qualify with a win or a tie against Wales, and could survive even with a loss, thanks to a strong +4 goal differential.

Wales must beat England to stand any chance of qualifying, and even then would be dependent on the other result in the group and a goal differential tiebreaker.

Iran qualifies with a win against the USA, but is eliminated with a defeat. The can also qualify with a tie, unless Wales beats England, and Iran finishes behind both those countries on goal differential.

Both matches are on Tuesday at 2 pm EST.

Cheers.
