Arsenal is finally ready to resume the season following a nice, 2-week break, including some warm weather training in Dubai.
With the injury list now down to just three (Tierney, Chambers and Soares), Mikel Arteta will have a lot more choices to draw from for his starting XI tomorrow at the Emirates. The key now is to keep these lads healthy, and ready top face the fixture challenge coming down the pike in the weeks ahead.
So, the Arsenal reboot begins with Newcastle United. Steve Bruce’s club is currently level with Arsenal on points at 31, but the Gunners did beat Newcastle 1-0 at St. James Park in the season opener on August 11th. Currently, the Magpies are in good form and have not lost a game since a 4-1 defeat to Leicester City on January 1st. Since then, they have 3 wins and 5 draws. This will be no easy task for Arteta’s squad, but one that is a necessary win and 3 points.
As mentioned, the games come fast and furious over the next few weeks as the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the Premier League will collectively keep the Gunners busy. 6 games in the next 20 days to be exact. Just another reason we need to stay healthy. We should also see our new acquisitions, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares get some game time in the near future. Arteta hinted we could see Mari as soon as this Thursday at Olympiacos. I really looking forward to seeing him play.
Okay, as I look at the coming schedule I would have two think most of these games are winnable. We need points in the league, and we need wins in the cup competitions to stay involved, so there is a lot on the line for our club at this critical point in the season. The slow start and some missed opportunities in the past few weeks have not helped our cause, however, a strong finish, and some fresh legs might get us back into the fight.
