Is Arsenal really thinking about selling Gabriel Magalhaes this summer?
Tuttosport and The Mirror have reported the Arsenal front office is having internal discussions about this very subject. These reports indicate Juventus could be the club targeting Gabriel. It is reported Arsenal would be asking for a $62.3-million (USD) transfer fee for the Brazilian defender.
At first I thought this story was a just joke, however, when you begin to see multiple reports from major news sources on the subject, it at least makes you pay attention.
Personally, I think it would be a mistake, even if the Gunners bring William Saliba back from Marseille and slot him into a regular role with Ben White on the back line.
With Arsenal playing European football next season this will means more games played with a shorter turnaround between games during the season. The Gunners will need not only depth at all positions, but depth with skill and experience. Having Ben White, Rob Holding, Gabriel and Saliba as the back line unit wouldn’t be all that bad, however Edu and Mikel Arteta could be looking to increase their treasure chest to help sign other players.
At this point, it is anyone’s guess, but for me, I would be shocked to see Gabriel Magalhaes leave north London their summer, even with William Saliba coming back to north London.
