Italian international and Chelsea star Jorginho has signed with Arsenal, effective immediately. The defensive midfielder comes to north London after spending the last 5 years on London’s west side.
Jorginho is 31 years old and hails from his birthplace in Brazil, but moved to Italy when he was 15 years old.. He’ll wear the #20, and will be under contract with Arsenal for the next 18 months, plus a one-year option. His transfer was worth $14.8-million (USD).
The midfielder will supply the needed back-up in the Arsenal engine, following the season-ending injury to Mo Elneney, and the mixed reviews Albert Sambi Lokonga has been receiving as of late.
Following his signing today at London Colney, Jorginho made theses comments about his move to north London…
“It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here. I’ll try to just bring positive energy, hard work and my experience to help the team. It’s what I always bring with me. I try just to help with the experience I’ve had in my time with the other clubs and anything I can do just to help the team to achieve more and more, that’s my target. All I can promise is that I’m going to give my all to represent this club.” [Quote courtesy of Arsenal.com]
Jorginho won four major trophies with Chelsea.
Two final notes, Cedric Soares is his way to Fulham on loan for the rest of this season, as is Albert Sambi Lokonga who is being loaned to Crystal Palace through June.
