Monday’s odds and ends

I’m back from a quick holiday at the beach, and getting ready for another exciting weekend of football ahead for the Arsenal Football Club!

So, with that said, here’s a few odds and ends, as well as some note and quotes worth repeating…

The Arsenal Women now know who they will be facing in the group stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Gunners drew into Group C, along with Barcelona, Koge and Hoffenheim. Group stage matches kick-off on October 5th and 6th.

Former Gunner defender David Luiz has signed a 16-month contract with Brazilian club Flamengo.

Arsene Wenger on the current Arsenal season, “Arsenal had two difficult out of the first three. Chelsea on a high at home, and of course after they go to Manchester City. Of course, you go to Man City and you can say it’s predictable that you could drop points. The bad result we made was in the first game against Brentford. After that it puts you straight away on the back foot. I wish them to recover and I think they will. The potential is there so I hope they come back.”

Mikel Arteta on Takehiro Tomiyasu’s debut, “Really positive, that’s the first impression when we met him, it’s all joy, happiness, smiles and good energy. The moment he steps on the pitch he’s really focused and determined. He understands the role really well and I think he was really good.”

Mike Arteta on Aaron Ramsdale’s performance, “I think he was terrific. Not only what he did on the technical side, it’s what he transmits. His chemistry with the backline. I had to make a decision today (Saturday) and Aaron was the right one to do so.”

Stat of the Day: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang v Burnley: 7 games, 8 goals, 1 assist.

Patrick Timmons, “Seeing as the media won’t be in a hurry to point it out, it’s worth nothing that Ben White made 3 keys passes against Norwich. For contact, David Luiz completed just 2 over the entirety of the 2020/2021 Premier League campaign.”

Marco van Basten, “Arsenal are the most beautiful club in England. At Man City and Chelsea, that will never have that class and style.”

Tony Cacarino on Auba v Laca, “Out of all the Arsenal strikers, I know they’ve got Aubameyang, but I think Laca is more clinical, and I think he can get 10-15 goals quite comfortably.”

Cheers.
