In my opinion…
Our defense was horrible. There was no shape, no communication, no commitment and no defensive spine Sunday. Watford had 31 shots, 10 of them on goal, 8 were saved and 2 found the back of the net. This was Watford, not Barcelona!
BTW, we had 7 shots of which 4 were on goal and 2 found the back of the net.
Emery’s style of playing out of the back wasn’t working with the caliber of back four players he started at Watford. Getting the ball past midfield was almost impossible. If we can’t get the ball upfield, our strike force has no chance of getting a shot on goal. Even Aubameyang spoke of our defense saying “it seems we are giving away goals to the opposition.”
Going forward let’s hope a few things change…
- If passing from the back isn’t working, go long.
- Start Holding and Chambers in the back.
- Get Bellerin and Tierney fit, and quick!
- Keep Ozil and Ceballos on the field longer together before making substitutions.
- Adjust tactics during the game when needed.
- Finally, the coaching staff needs to put a boot in some of these player’s behinds to get them motivated.
As you can tell the frustration is starting to kick in. I’m not at the tipping point yet, however, with a few more performances like the one we saw Sunday the pot will be boiling over! Watford is a game you must win. I hope and pray these 2 missed points don’t come back to bite us in the arse at the end of the season.
