We sure have a lot to discuss today, and for a change, it’s a lot of good news!
First off, Arsenal played one of their best games of the season yesterday, hammering Norwich City 4-0 at the Emirates. Now, we know one game does not make a season or earn a Champions League spot, however, it was a terrific team win from top to bottom. and, Arsenal has won 3 in a row!
The highlights included Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang picking up goals 50 and 51 during his Arsenal career. He now holds the club record for reaching 50 goals in the fewest amount of games. Other kudos go to Emiliano Martinez, Kieran Tierney, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alexandre Lacazette. Other pats on the back go to Hector Bellerin, and even to David Luiz, who put in a solid defensive performance on Wednesday.
And, how about that strike from Arsenal debutant Cedric Soares? He hit a screamer off his weaker foot for the Gunners’ 4th goal of the game! Congrats, Cedric!
Now, the real fun begins for the Gunners as they work their way up the table chasing a European qualifying spot for next season. Arsenal’s next 4 Premier League matches are Wolves, Leicester City, Tottenham and Liverpool. That’s not an easy stretch, but if you are going to compete with the big boys, you have to beat the big boys. Right?
The other good news from Wednesday included Bukayo Saka signing a new, long term contract with the Gunners. After only 37 first team appearances for Arsenal, the 18-year-old has impressed both his club and his opponents. This is really exciting news for all of us Gooners who can’t wait to see what this talented, versatile young footballer will bring to Arsenal in the years ahead.
Other stuff to report includes the Express reporting Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann is still on the Gunners summer transfer radar as the Frenchman continues to find his career difficult with the Spanish giants.
Also, Le10 Sport and the Mail are reporting the Gunners are hoping David Luiz can convince fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva to join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer from PSG.
Plus, the Athletic and the Mirror are both reporting Arsenal are still hot on the trail of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, however, the Gunners are not willing to pay the $56-million (USD) release clause to the La Liga club.
Finally, the Mail is reporting Henrikh Mkhitaryan will stay with Roma permanently after his loan spell with the Serie A side was extended.
Oh, and this just in to Yankee Gooner…Matteo Guendouzi is still in exile!
Cheers, stay healthy and safe!
