Wednesday’s match at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Area is really a crossroads for the Gunners. A defeat ends a dream of reaching the Champions League semifinals, and potentially the final itself.
A loss would also mean the club has lost two consecutive, very important late-season matches in a row. Could this be a repeated storyline from last season?
The good news, the Gunners have bounced back before.If you remember late December, the club lost 0-2 to West Ham, 1-2 to Fulham and 0-2 to Liverpool before a 14 game unbeaten streak that began on January 20th.
Can Mikel Arteta and his team regain that spark once again? Can the match at Bayern Munich be the beginning of something big for the Gunners?
Honestly, it’s going to take a herculean effort to get the job done, on both fronts – Premier League and Champions League.
Wednesday will be a true test to see if Arteta and his lads have the intestinal fortitude to win this match under these strenuous circumstances. Wednesday is win or go home. Period. There can be no more pressure than that.
However, there is some concern in the Arsenal camp. Martin Odegaard was taken off in the 79th minute v Villa, and Arteta told reporters the captain’s appearance on Wednesday is questionable. Arteta’s is reasonably coy, so we’ll have to wait until game time to see what happens.
As a devoted supporter of Arsenal, I still maintain a positive feeling, however, last year’s story still lingers in the back of my mind. A win in Munich would help fade that memory for good.
