There is a lot going on with Arsenal these days, and maybe even more Gunner headlines will be written in January.
What will Arsenal do in the next transfer market? Will Xhaka, Ozil, Torreira or Mustafi be sent packing to other clubs? If one, two, three, or all four of these transfers happen what will the Gunners’ front office do to improve the squad?
So, if you were controlling the transfer plan and the purse strings, where would you start?
If I was in charge, here’s what I would do.
Midfield: Keep Ozil, but trade Xhaka and Torreira. Xhaka is no longer wanted by the supporters, and there is no way he can find his way back. Plus, Torreira is apparently having a hard time settling into the London lifestyle and weather, so it’s probably best to send him somewhere else. By doing these transfers it would open the door to bring in some defensive midfield strength as well as some offensive creativity.
Defensively: I think we might have the right guys to get the job done, but we need to see the duo of Holding and Chambers have a chance anchoring the center of the defense. Why not? Luiz and Sokratis have been shaky and have given up too many silly goals. Obviously, Mustafi needs to go. Period. Regarding the fullbacks, I think this is one of our strengths. Bellerin, Tierney, and Kolasinac are solid, plus Chambers can also play the position. There is no need to add any help there. The same goes for the goalkeepers. Leno and Martinez have done a good job and have made some important saves to help plug a leaky defense that tends to take short naps from time to time.
Up front: There is plenty of firepower, they just need to get the ball at their feet more often. No help is required in the strike force during the transfer window.
To conclude, we need help in the midfield….PERIOD!
