Due to COVID-19 turning the European football schedule on its ear, the The FA has proposed moving the summer transfer window to August through October. The window is currently set to run from June through September.
While in discussions with the continent’s domestic leagues, a majority of those clubs would like to finish the current season before making signings for the next. Obviously, this plays into a club’s financial considerations, too, as well as promotions, relegations and European spots.
However, when all is said and done, each country’s association will have the right to finalize their own specific dates for opening and closing their transfer window. At this point, the general consensus for closing the transfer window seems to be Friday, October 2.
This, again, will add even another layer of complexity to an already complicated situation. This will cause teams to be a month into next season’s fixture list before final rosters will be established. Even though everyone is in the same boat, the first few months of the 2020-2021 season will be a whirlwind with comings and goings, goings and comings.
Cheers, and stay healthy and safe!
