The name we have heard the most from Arsenal during the January transfer window has been Dusan Vlahovic.
But who is this guy, and why are the Gunners so keen to sign him to a whopper deal?
Vlahovic will be 22-years-old on January 28th. He was born in Belgrade, and is 6’3″ tall. He wears #9. Since turning professional in 2015 at the age of 15, Vlahovic has played for Partizan, and his current club Fiorentina. He also plays for the Serbian national team.
After watching the striker’s highlight reel on You Tube, I can see why he is in high demand this transfer window, and why Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are so high on signing him.
Here’s why. He is big and strong, he has an accurate and powerful left foot, he is excellent from the penalty spot, he can run really well with the ball, he has a terrific first touch, he can provide assists and he looks very intense on the pitch. Of course, even though this was only a highlight reel, there is no doubt this guy can play football, and score goals. So far this season, he has scored 21 goals in 22 matches.
Multiple sources are reporting Vlahovic is asking for a weekly salary of $408,000 (USD) per week. Journalist David Ornstein reports, “They (Arsenal) have indicated that it is the sort of level they’re prepared to go to.”
Journalist Chris Wheatley is reporting Edu is doing “everything possible” to sign Vlahovic this month, even adding Lucas Torriera into the deal.
News reports from Croatia say the relationship between Vlahovic and his agent could be on thin ice, and that the player is interested in Arsenal, and could sack his agent if he causes trouble getting a deal completed. So, it will very interesting to see what happens with Dusan Vlahovic in the next days or weeks before the window closes.
Check out his highlight reel. I think you’ll be impressed, too.
Cheers.
