It goes without saying that Jurrien Timber will be a huge loss to the Gunners if his knee injury is more serious than we hoped.
The young man joined Arsenal just a few short weeks ago and has already become a fan favorite. His ability to play multiple positions has been impressive, and his season looked to be heading in the right direction with his new team.
Now, will Timber’s injury prevent Gaspar Edu and Mikel Arteta from either selling or loaning Kieran Tierney in this transfer window? In my opinion, I hope they selfishly keep the Scottish fullback to proive added depth to the Gunners defensive back four.
With Alex Zinchenko returning to full training, keeping Tierney would provide the fullback rotation Arteta should take advantage of along with Zinchenko, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey.
Obviously, Tierney will not get the playing time he hopes for if he stays with the Gunners, and he knows that. However, with Newcastle United breathing down Arsenal’s necks to land a transfer or loan for KT, tough decisions are ahead for the Arsenal front office. Do we cut him lose to give him his opportunity to play elsewhere, or do we keep him as a back-up to Zinchenko? I’m sure a lot will be decided on the outcome of Timber’s injury.
So, just two weeks into the season Arsenal are already without two of their star players, Timber and Gabriel Jesus. This is not what Arteta hoped for, but this is even more reason for the Gunners to have the necessary depth to push forward with a very demanding list of fixtures.
Right now in my book, Kieren Tierney’s value has increased with the Gunners.
Cheers.
