25-year-old, Ukrainian born defender/midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko is apparently on his way to becoming an Arsenal player.
According to Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal is a done deal. A $36-million (USD) transfer fee and personal terms have been agreed, with his contract running through June, 2026. The player is scheduled to have his medical this week, and will then join-up with the Gunners either in Orlando, or back in London.
Zinchenko joined Manchester City in 2016, but spend two of the following seasons on loan at PSV and Jong PSV, respectively. In 76 appearances for City, he failed to score a goal, however, he has also played 52 matches for his Ukrainian national team, scoring 8 times. He was voted Ukrainian Footballer of the Year in 2019.
The 5’9″ Zinchenko can play attacking midfielder, left back or left wing back.
Mikel Arteta has been a big supporter of Zinchenko since coaching him at Manchester City. The player will provide additional depth for the Gunners during the long campaign ahead, and will be competition for the left back position v Kieran Tierney.
In my opinion, Edu Gaspar and Arteta have added yet another strong player to the roster, and have put together a very strong summer transfer so far, with Jesus, Turner, Marquinhos, Vieira and now, Zinchenko.
With 43 days remaining in the transfer window, anything could still happen.
Are Leroy Sane, Lucas Paqueta and Youri Tielemans still on the radar?
Stay tuned!
Cheers.
