Do you support him or don’t you support him? That is the question.

Opinions seemed to be mixed regarding Mikel Arteta.

Here’s what some in the media are reporting on Arsenal and the status of Arteta’s future as the Gunners manager…

Matt Law of The Telegraph – “Arteta has until the October international break to turn Arsenal around or he will fight for his job. The board is growing impatient of results and Josh Kroenke was at Sunday’s game to see the disconnect of the fans in particular.”

The Mirror – “The Gunners are determined to support under-pressure manager Mikel Arteta following defeats in the opening two days of the Premier League season.”

Roy Keane – “I would give him longer, you have to give the manager longer. We have seen it with Man United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he needed two or three years before he started to make progress. Jurgen Klopp was an established manager, but it does take time.”

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, “Arteta talks a good game, but not good enough to convince anyone that everything is on the right path at Arsenal. I like Arteta, he is a nice bloke, and I hope he gets it right, but we are still living in the past at Arsenal.”

Fabrizio Romano – “Arsenal are backing Arteta. They trust Mikel Arteta and want to continue with him. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks, but they want a long term project.”

Here are a few stats that don’t play well for Arteta…

  1. Arteta has lost more home Premier League matches in 20 months than Wenger lost in six years at the Emirates.
  2. Unai Emery’s Arsenal record – 78 games – 43 wins, 15 draws and 20 defeats – .551 winning %
  3. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal record – 88 game – 47 wins, 16 draws and 25 defeats – .534 wining %

Where’s the progress?

Now, maybe with a healthier squad, and another 2 or 3 solid transfer signings, Arteta can turn the season around. However, even with a bonafide squad of Premier League caliber players, does Arteta have the ability to get the most from them, and can he get the tactics rights, both before and during matches? His lack of managerial experience is where he gets in trouble. Yes, he had begun to turn the club’s culture around, however, it just isn’t translating into wins on the pitch.

So, what happens if Arteta does leave? Well, Antonino Conte and Brendan Rodgers would be the frontrunners for Arteta’s job. The Telegraph reports, “Conte would need to be convinced he would be given the tools and the money to challenge for trophies at the Emirates before he would accept any offer.” Rodgers, on the other hand, probably wouldn’t be available until next summer.

In my opinion, if we do not show some improvement in the next six weeks, the Kroenkes have the October international break to make a change. They can not allow this season to slip away.

As supporters of this great club, we are frustrated beyond belief. We want to see some sort of progress. We want to see better effort, better tactics, better execution, better defense, more goals, and most importantly, we want to see wins!

Just look at what happened to Chelsea last season. They were floundering and losing matches until their owner made a manager change. End result, a Champions League trophy!

Why can’t this be Arsenal?

Do you support him or don’t you support him? That is the question?

  1. Arteta should never have been given the job no other supposed top team would have hired him he’s probably a good coach but that’s it for me he will always be the tomorrow man , tomorrow, tomorrow tomorrow it will be better , he said judge him in 3 years …..Will that be when he’s trying to get Arsenal promoted back to the premiership?, Edu needs to go as well , he couldn’t direct traffic on an empty road

  2. Last season 3rd best defence in the league. From Christmas only City got more points than arsenal and we are undergoing a squad overhaul.
We all know there has been dead wood in the squad for years so we had to go through some difficult times to change it.
We are not Chelsea or City who can spend our way to the top so we need to be realistic about where we are. Of course Arteta is under pressure but he should be given a chance to see how the team plays once the players are available. The board need to bring in a couple of 1st 11 starters to improve the the strength of the team as so far we have improved the squad but the improvement to the starting 11 is negligible. I support the team and the manager but for Arteta the clock is ticking and we need to be in touch with top 4 by November otherwise he will be gone.
