The Aubameyang v Arsenal show never developed at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. In fact., the Chelsea frontman touched the ball only four times in the entire first half, and was then subbed off in the second half. What a showstopper this storyline never became.
With that out of the way, let’s discuss the really important stuff, the terrific performance the Gunners put on against crosstown rivals Chelsea. From the opening kick you could just tell Arsenal would be the dominating side, and they were!
And, what individual performances to rave about! Gabriel Jesus must have logged 10 miles on Sunday. #9 was everywhere, all the time, and even though he didn’t score a goal, his contributions to the team were absolutely invaluable.
And then there was William Saliba. The 21-year-old French defender is so smooth, so quick, and his sense of timing is absolutely phenomenal. Combine those two with the play of Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, and it’s no wonder Arsenal controlled the middle of the park from sunrise to sunset. This was truly a great performance against a Champions League club.
Once again, the Gunners found a way to win with only one score on the board. I hope this is not a season-long trend, but for now it’s working, and we keep tallying wins.
Now, there are only two matches left before the long World Cup break.
On Wednesday, Arsenal hosts Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup opener for both clubs.
Then, it’s off to Wolverhampton to face Wolves on Sunday. A win there would assure the Gunners remaining in first place in the Premier League going into the break.
Folks, we have a really team here, one that we can feel really proud to support!
1-Nil to the Arsenal, again!
COYG!
