With Arsenal joining the other 5 English Premier League clubs to withdraw from the newly announced European Super League, it appears the European Super Leaguee is dead on arrival.
After a day and a half of constant backlash and anger, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool unanimously pulled a quick U-turn and withdrew from the new league. It appears these clubs were not prepared for the tremendous amount of backlash they received from the media, the players, government heads, and their supporters.
Now, the “big six” will grovel for forgiveness, including Arsenal. The Gunners brass released a statement this evening, “We made a mistake, and we apologize for it. We know it will take time to restore your faith in what we are trying to achieve here at Arsenal but let us be clear that the decision to be part of the Super League was driven by our desire to protect Arsenal, the club you love, and to support the game you love through greater solidarity and financial stability.”
It’s amazing what 24-48 hours can do to a football club’s integrity. Loyalty won out over greed, and that’s a good thing.
So, what do the remaining 6 clubs in the Super League do? The next 24 hours will tell their fate, and you can take that to the bank.
Good night, and cheers!
