Here’s what the Gunners need to do…
- Defeat Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday to earn qualification for next season’s Champions League.
- Win the remaining three games of their schedule to keep the pressure on Chelsea for that third place finish in the Premier League.
- Sign Mo Elneny and Eddie Nketiah to new contracts. Why not?
- Keep Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding on the squad for next season. Again, why not?
- Get Ben White healthy for the North London Derby on Thursday.
Wow, a lot happened while I was away for a few days. Mike Arteta gets a new contract, Arsenal defeats Leeds United, Liverpool and Tottenham play to a draw, as does Chelsea and Wolves, Watford gets relegated to the Championship, while Manchester United is blown away by Brighton and Hove.
Maybe I should go away more often!
Yes, we need to be so proud of this Arsenal squad. What looked like doom and gloom just a few weeks again is now looking like Arsenal has a “real” shot at earning a Champions League spot for next season. If that happens, no one, except maybe Piers Morgan, can say this has not been a successful campaign for the Gunners. Following a season when there was no European football to be played, climbing the Premier League mountain like Arteta has done needs to be recognized as a remarkable accomplishment.
Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done over the course of the next 13 days, however, for a change the Gunners are in the driver’s seat with their destiny in their own hands.
Make or break, it’s been a helluva ride!
COYG!
Cheers.
